Unaitas is financial services institution licensed under the SACCO Societies Act in 2012 and has more than 24 branches across Kenya.
Unitas planned to ensure efficient banking services and to transform into a commercial bank. It needed to meet various approvals of relevant Kenyan regulatory authorities before it can be granted the appropriate licence. One of such prerequisites was the need for its operations to run on a digitised core banking system.
KPMG firm led the process of selecting the appropriate technical partner and banking system software by adhering to a due diligence approach. Consequently, JETHRO was engaged.
Recommendations for the suitable banking system release and infrastructure was made and JETHRO established a firm business understanding of the Sacco and the Kenyan Financial sector that ensured the success of the engagement. The project was completed within 13 months and some milestones included:
- R17 implementation on T24
- Migration of data from the legacy system
- ATM, MO Cash, Agency Banking Interfaces
- And more
The project was worth millions of dollars in investments with a combined team (client & partner) of 10 persons and almost all business banking application modules offered on T24 was implemented.
After the core banking system “Go-live” date Unitas experienced more efficient way of operating as a financial institution and dynamism in terms of deploying value added services to customers resulting in multiple income generation and reduction in revenue leakage. Additionally, Unitas was able to meet its regulatory requirements. Its future plans is to become a force to reckon with in the East African financial space and it is on journey to getting there.
